Infected teeth are not comfortable, but we can treat them to feel good as new! As untreated cavities grow, they can infect the pulp or root of the tooth. When this happens, you’ll need a root canal.

Root Canal Process

Anesthetic
To begin the procedure, our dentists will numb the area with local anesthetic. This will not only completely ease the pain you’ve been in with your infected tooth, but you also won’t feel anything during the root canal.

Pulp Removal
Our dentists will then remove the pulp (the insides of the root) by going through the tooth, removing any decayed enamel and dentin as they make their way to the pulp. After the pulp and infection is removed, they’ll then fill the tooth with a temporary filling. This filling will stay in place while the infection completely resolves. If needed, you’ll be prescribed antibiotics to help clear up the infection quickly.

Crown
After the infection is gone, your tooth will be ready for a permanent crown. These crowns can be made from porcelain, ceramic, or metal. Porcelain crowns are strong, tinted to look like your natural enamel, and look like a real tooth. After your tooth with the root canal has been capped with a crown, the process is over.
